Work Survival Transferrable Skills
  • Making and implementing decisions – having the confidence and knowledge to make a decision, own it, and put that into effect is a skill learned over time.
  • Cooperating – Getting along with others. Being a team player is a skill that employers look for. Contribute to the team and don’t get hung up on titles.
  • Enforcing policies or established rules has become even more apparent in this pandemic we live in.  Policies, practices, and boundaries must be adhered to.  Not only does it show respect but your intellect.
  • Being punctual – showing up on time!
  • Managing time wisely – time management is owning your time to get the job done. This skill is beneficial in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Attending to detail – articulate well, read and re-read your words.  Read your words aloud are all training tools I have learned to catch written mistakes.
  • Meeting goals, both short-term and long-term – time management is a skill.  Whether you manage timelines in a calendar, through colour coding, or on a whiteboard, visually seeing the goal and results needed makes the road easily seen.
  • Enlisting the help of others when you need it – Asking for help.  More hands-on deck.
